HIGHER GROUND: NCJW’S Domestic Violence Campaign is a national effort to end domestic violence by improving the economic status of women, as economic security is critical to women’s safety. Higher Ground educates and mobilizes advocates to promote polices that will foster women’s economic autonomy.
Adequate funding for public schools and quality early childhood education is essential to ensure that all children receive a quality education.
BENCHMARK: NCJW’S Judicial Nominations Campaign aims to ensure a fair and independent judiciary that keeps faith with constitutional values. Courts matter. Federal Court decisions impact every aspect of our lives. NCJW promotes a federal bench with judges who support fundamental freedoms, including a woman’s right to reproductive choice.
NCJW believes common sense measures include universal background checks and bans on high-capacity ammunition and military-style assault rifles.
Every American should be entitled to adequate affordable health care. The attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act has temporally died in the Senate, saving health care for millions. NCJW will remain vigilant to any effort to destroy guarantees of the Affordable Care Act.
Cases of human trafficking have been reported in all fifty states. The majority of victims are sex trafficking victims, and about 80% are female. In the forced labor area, domestic servants, farm and factory workers are most commonly trafficked. NCJW supports policies to improve detection and prosecution of sex trafficking and labor trafficking and to provide services for survivors. In Nassau County there is a human trafficking court that does provide needed services.
Immigrants and refugees come to the U.S. seeking better lives for themselves and their families. Our Jewish values compel us to welcome the stranger, for once we were strangers. NCJW is fighting against xenophobic, anti-immigrant and anti-refugee policies to ensure our country continues to be a welcoming place.
Working to preserve quality of life, safety, health and happiness for our seniors is a key tenet of NCJW.
Designed to secure and safeguard voting rights for all, and encourage participation in the democratic process at the community, state and federal levels with the aim to ensure that every eligible voter is able to vote and to ensure that every vote is counted.
NCJW believes that all women, regardless of income, deserve ready access to women’s health care, sex education, birth control and abortion services. NCJW works in coalition with Planned Parenthood to assure that health care is accessible and a women’s right to reproductive choice is protected.
Sexual violence, including sexual harassment and sexual assault continues to be a pervasive problem on college campuses and in the military. NCJW strives to help develop public policy to ensure emphasis on prevention, accountability for perpetrators and justice for survivors.
